Check-In, April 16th, 2018

Good morning County, Happy Monday.

I know that this has, again, been a very challenging year, so this week, I wanted to share a bit of good news.

Halifax County is very pleased to announce that 4 of our members will be receiving the Halifax County Local Service award for 2017/2018.

This award is given out based on a number of criteria, including meritorious service to education or particularly valuable service to the NSTU. I will be sending out congratulatory letters to these individuals today, and wish to hold off on saying too much more about them until I do so, but did want to have an opportunity to let you know the good news. They will be honoured at the Annual Council Luncheon on May 5th.

As well, today also marks the kick off of this year’s Inspire awards. The Inspire awards were first implemented by our previous president, and were designed as a way for members to recognize the amazing efforts, talents and dedication of their peers. Awards are granted for excellence in educational leadership, mentorship, community involvement, passion for and excellence in teaching. I will be sending out more information over the next few weeks, and if you are interested in finding out more, stay tuned, or email me at halifaxcountylocal@nstu.ca.

Please be advised that if you are impacted by the Eastern Passage re-alignment, there is a meeting tomorrow in the cafeteria of the Eastern Passage Education Center at 3 pm. HRSB HR manager Jeri-Lee McElhiney will be presenting a session on how that will be handled, and she will be available to answer questions. I will be attending as well, so I hope to see you there.

Finally, this week marks the wrap of the Provincial Executive election. Please check out the links on the right to read all about them!

That’s it for this week, County. Have a good one.
