Check In, Monday, April 23rd

Good morning County. Happy Monday.

Staffing season is fast approaching, and I would like to remind teachers of a few key dates. Please note that you should receive your notice of assignment on May 9th by 4pm, and that is when the first round goes live. If you are considering a change, please make sure that your resume is up to date on MyHRSB. This is a common mistake, and not having your current qualifications listed when you apply for a job can leave you out of the running. The first round closes on May 14th.

As well, Annual Council is fast approaching. For those of you who may not know, Annual Council is a meeting that takes place once per year where a great many decisions are made about everything from how the NSTU spends its money to what items are prioritized in negotiations. Halifax County is taking approximately 50 delegates this year, and I want to thank them for giving up their time on the 1st weekend in May to take on this important role.

I am also pleased to announce that, this year, Local Service awards will be presented to four Halifax County members for outstanding service to the local and to education as a whole. They are Phil Goora, Meg Ferguson, Terry Ryan and Karen Hudson. Congratulations to all of you on some well deserved recognition.

Speaking of awards, I am happy to again announce that the Halifax County Inspire awards are back up and running for the 2018 year-end. The awards are given to Halifax County Local members for showing excellence in Educational Leadership, Mentorship, Community, Passion, or Teaching. The awards are divided into two strands, one for NSTU reps or alternates, and one for the general membership. Nominating someone is simple, and only requires a brief (300 word) write-up of how that person has been an inspiration. To find out more, please e-mail me at hfxcopresident@gmail.com. Nominations will remain open until May 28th.

Finally, I would like to take a moment to thank all out Provincial Executive Candidates for putting their names forward to represent Halifax County at the Provincial table. Congratulations to Shaun Doyle on his win, and we look forward to his joining our team.

That’s it for this week County. Enjoy the beautiful spring weather and reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
