Check-In, Monday, May 14th

Good Morning County, Happy Monday.

As staffing season kicks into high gear, I am getting lots of calls about notice of assignment.

Please note that the principal does have the right to assign you as per the needs of the school. However, if you feel that the assignment is unfair or unreasonable, you can request to have an explanation as to why it has changed.

Article 10.05 reads

Notice of Assignment:
(i) Permanent and probationary teachers shall be notified of the school(s), grade level(s) and course(s) to be taught for the ensuing year before the commencement of the rounds of permanent postings.
(ii) When any Notice of Assignment resulting in a major change in assignment is given to a teacher, the teacher will be provided with the reason(s) for the change, if requested by the teacher.
(iii) Nothing herein shall prevent the Principal from making necessary changes to a teacher’s assignment at any time after the notice of assignment has been issued. The Principal shall provide a written explanation of such change if requested.

If you have any specific questions, please reach out.

Halifax County is also quite excited to announce that we will be offering a free screening of the Matt Damon movie Backpack Full of Cash, a feature length documentary that explores the increasing trend of privatizing public schools. This is the first time this film has been screened in Atlantic Canada, and the event will be held at the Woodlawn Public Library on May 29th, 6:00 pm. You can watch the trailer by clicking here. To register for the event, please fill out this form.
