Good morning, County! Happy Monday!
First of all, a big congratulations to Paul Wozney on being elected to become the next president of the NSTU. He won 58% of the vote and will take over on August 1st, 2018. I want to take a small point of personal privilege to thank Paul on a great campaign, and am looking forward to supporting him in whatever capacity I can as Local President as we move forward through what will undoubtedly be a challenging two years.
Staffing season is now in full swing, and I am getting a number of questions about the process, particularly around NOA’s. Members should know that if someone posts out of your building in round one, you can request a change in your NOA to perhaps fill the vacant position. However, the final decision as to whether to grant that request lies with the admin team. If you have any questions or concerns about specifics, please drop me a line.
The year is rapidly coming to a close, and this Wednesday is our Halifax County Annual General Meeting. There will be elections for a number of local executive positions, year-end reports will be presented, and the budget for our 2018-2019 fiscal year will be decided upon. Any member of Halifax County Local can attend our AGM, which is held at the Calais Legion in Lower Sackville, 6:00 pm for a 6:30 pm start.
The Inspire Awards have wrapped up for this year, and I am pleased to announce that we have a total of nine recipients. These members will be contacted personally by the local president, and will be honoured at a small ceremony on June the 21st. Thanks to everyone who put forth a nomination, and congratulation to our winners. Their names will be published in our Check-In next week, once I have had a chance to contact them individually.
Finally, tickets are still available for the retirement brunch which is happening this Sunday. If you have not purchased them as of yet, there is still time to do so. Please contact email@example.com if you want to find out more.
That’s it for today, County! Have a great week.
