At that meeting you will have an opportunity to meet with the 7 candidates to be your next NSTU Provincial President. Thank you to Turk MacDonald, our 1st VP for Chairing the meeting and to REO Duncan Cameron for organizing the Speeches/Q&A.
A reminder to Reps regarding the Shaping our Futures email with PowerPoint and Probing questions that, if possible, that info will be collected at the May 11th meeting as well. There will also be paper copies available at the meeting.
Please see the Announcements below and the time sensitive dates for each initiative from our local committees. Please note the deadline for the Local Bursary of Friday May 20th, 2022. Staffing Information Session Designed for Newer Teachers
There will be an NSTU information session coming up soon which is designed to help newer teachers make well informed decisions heading into the Teacher Placement Process (TPP) and the Term Teaching posting rounds. This session will clarify the various types of employment status that teachers may attain on their way to a permanent contract. It will also cover some key information regarding teacher qualifications, as well as other related topics.
So, who should attend this session? I would say it would be most beneficial to teachers who currently have term recall status or aggregate status. Anyone who anticipates going to TPP will certainly benefit from this session as well including anyone who is declared surplus at their school. It would also be a good session for substitute teachers.
So, if you or someone you know would want to attend this session, please share the details below:
When: Thursday, June 2nd at 4:30 pm
Where: Online—Zoom platform
Who: This session is being led by the three Local Presidents in Metro but there will also be NSTU Staff Officers on the Zoom call.
How: In order to sign up, please email, firstname.lastname@example.org so the Zoom link can be sent directly to you.
If you have any other questions about this session, you can always send an email for clarification as well.

It is in your Provincial/Regional Agreement
As some teachers have asked about their lost narking and preparation time, I have included the section in article 59 to clarify. Also, many teachers have expressed they have significant barriers to carrying out their duties, so a section of the Working Conditions article is also attached. A link to both articles in their entirety is listed below for your reference. Please email our local NSTU staff officer if you need assistance or clarification for either article, Wally’s email is email@example.com.
ARTICLE 59 MARKING AND PREPARATION TIME
59.05 A teacher who is required by the Principal to fill in when a substitute is not hired pursuant to Article 32.23 (Substitute Teachers) of this Agreement shall have the lost marking and preparation time rescheduled within ten (10) school days.
ARTICLE 70 WORKING CONDITIONS
